Most of the population of the Kalgoorlie electorate is in the built-up area of the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, the new boundaries introduced in 2017 combining the twin cities into the same electorate for the first time. As well as the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder council, the electorate includes the Shires of Laverton, Leonora, Menzies, Coolgardie and Dundas. Other the major population centres are Coolgardie, Kambalda and Norseman. Kalgoorlie is the state's second largest electorate and covers 555,549 square kilometres or 21.9% of the state, almost twice the size of Victoria and Tasmania combined.
